A Different Approach

Life can change in a single day.

A surgery. A hospital discharge. An unexpected event. A period of recovery. Or a long-awaited trip that suddenly feels difficult to manage.

During these moments, individuals often do not need a large agency or a long-term arrangement. They need one experienced professional who can step in, understand the situation, think ahead, adapt, and provide calm, dependable support.

That is why I created Amity.

The Amity Difference

  • I personally provide every service.
  • No rotating caregivers or repeated introductions.
  • Short-term, highly personalized support.
  • Care plans can be adapted as needs change.
  • Travel and companion care available throughout Canada.
  • Long-term needs can be referred to trusted partner agencies.

Deep Clinical Background

Three Decades of Care Experience

More than thirty years of healthcare experience informs every Amity engagement. My background includes nursing, emergency care, rehabilitation, home care, disability support, mental health, leadership, program development, and healthcare consulting.

When life changes, experienced support can make the situation feel manageable again.

Founder & Lead Care Practitioner

Experience You Can Trust. Care You Can Feel.

“Healthcare became part of my life long before it became my profession.”

Amanda - Founder of Amity

From an early age, I experienced firsthand the realities of serious illness, long-term treatment, recovery, uncertainty, and life-changing injury within my own family. Later, I had the profound experience of caring for a loved one at home through advanced cancer and end-of-life.

These experiences shaped my understanding of what meaningful care truly requires. Individuals and families need more than completed tasks—they need reassurance, practical solutions, continuity, honest communication, and someone who understands how deeply illness, injury, and major life transitions can affect the entire family.

I began my healthcare career approximately thirty years ago as a Health Care Aide and later became a nurse. My experience has spanned emergency care, rehabilitation, home care, disability support, mental health and addictions, leadership, program development, and healthcare consulting. Some of my most meaningful work has involved supporting people with physical and mental health challenges to continue participating in everyday life—travelling, enjoying recreation, meeting for coffee, and pursuing experiences that may otherwise have seemed out of reach.

I founded Amity because I wanted the freedom to provide thoughtful, high-quality care beyond the limitations of traditional staffing and care delivery models. I wanted care to be more personal, flexible, and responsive—not simply defined by a schedule or list of tasks, but shaped around the individual and what they genuinely need during that period of their life. Today, I personally provide each Amity engagement, allowing me to build a genuine relationship, develop an individualized approach to care, recognize changes, and adapt support as needs evolve.

Founder Positioning Statement

When you choose Amity, you are not assigned a caregiver. You work directly with me—from our first consultation through the completion of your care journey.

Tailored Solutions

Private Care Built Around Specific Transitions

Amity provides focused solutions for specific moments in life rather than an ongoing checklist of general household tasks.

Hospital-to-Home Support

Short-term, personalized support following hospital discharge, combining medical care within my scope of practice with day-to-day assistance. Support may include medication assistance, monitoring, mobility, personal care, meals, appointments, recovery routines, and coordination of ongoing care.

Respite Care

Short-term, personalized care providing families and caregivers with trusted relief while maintaining the individual's established care and routines. Support may include medical care within my scope of practice, personal care, mobility, medications, meals, daily activities, appointments, and companionship.

Addiction Recovery & Transition Support

Personalized, non-crisis support for individuals transitioning from addiction treatment or continuing their recovery in the community. Care may include structured daily routines, recovery-focused support, appointments, medication assistance within scope, community reintegration, and connection to ongoing services. Additional qualified support staff can be arranged based on the individual's needs and level of care required.

Amity Personal Care Support

Travel Companion Care

One-to-one support for flights, road trips, cruises, vacations, family visits, weddings, funerals, sporting events, medical travel, and other meaningful experiences.

New Parent & Family Transition

Short-term practical support for recovery, rest, household organization, newborn routines within training and scope, and families adjusting after birth or hospitalization.

Canada-Wide Support

Travel Again With Greater Confidence

Health changes, mobility needs, recovery, or caregiver concerns do not always have to mean giving up travel or meaningful events. I provide personalized companion care throughout Canada, helping clients and families plan and navigate the practical details of the journey.

Examples of Travel Support

  • Flights and airport navigation
  • Road trips and cross-country travel
  • Cruises and maritime excursions
  • Family vacations and seasonal snowbird travel
  • Destination weddings, funerals, and family gatherings
  • Medical travel and out-of-province appointments
  • Sporting events, concerts, and cultural activities
  • Return travel following illness or hospitalization

Travel Cost Structure

The client is responsible for all travel-related costs, including booked care time, travel time, airfare or other transportation, mileage, suitable private accommodations, meals, parking, ground transportation, required travel insurance, and other agreed expenses.

Estimated travel costs and fees are paid in advance before the booking is confirmed.

Suitability & Scope Notice

Travel services are accepted only after a suitability review. The destination, itinerary, client needs, required equipment, medical stability, insurance, emergency planning, accommodations, and scope of support must be confirmed before acceptance.

Simple, Transparent Process

How Amity Works

A structured, step-by-step approach ensuring complete clarity, comfort, and preparation before service begins.

01

Private Consultation

I learn about the situation, goals, anticipated dates, health considerations, travel plans, and the specific type of support requested.

02

Suitability Review

I determine whether the request fits my qualifications, professional scope, availability, safety requirements, and short-term service model.

03

Personalized Care Proposal

The individual receives a written outline of services, booked hours, travel arrangements, fees, responsibilities, and required documentation.

04

Advance Payment & Confirmation

The booking is formally confirmed once the agreement is signed and all required fees and estimated expenses have been paid.

05

Personally Delivered Care

I remain the single point of contact and personally deliver every hour of agreed services with continuous focus.

06

Completion or Transition

At the end of the booking, I provide a summary and, where appropriate, help connect the individual with suitable ongoing long-term services.

Guidance & Fit

A Calm Starting Point During Change

Individuals often call during uncertain moments. They may not yet know how much care is needed, how quickly recovery will happen, whether travel is realistic, or whether support will eventually become long term. Amity provides immediate short-term support, clear communication, and guidance toward the next appropriate step.

Ideal Fit

  • The need is short term or transitional.
  • The client values continuity with one trusted professional.
  • The booking meets the minimum service requirement (16 hrs).
  • The client is medically and behaviourally appropriate for a sole-provider model.
  • Required equipment, supplies, and travel accommodations can be provided.
  • There is a realistic emergency and backup plan.

Not the Right Fit

  • Continuous or indefinite long-term staffing.
  • Requests requiring multiple simultaneous caregivers.
  • Unstable or active emergency medical situations.
  • Active crisis situations requiring specialized psychiatric intervention.
  • Unsafe environments or unmanaged aggression.
  • Services outside professional scope or insurance authorization.
Collaborative Healthcare Relationships

A Short-Term Solution That Supports Long-Term Relationships

Amity is designed to complement—not compete with—traditional home care agencies and healthcare providers. I accept short-duration, immediate-start, travel-related, respite, recovery, and transitional requests that may not fit a larger agency’s staffing model.

Amity May Be a Fit When:

  • A prospective client needs only a few days or weeks of dedicated care.
  • A larger case cannot be fully staffed immediately by an agency.
  • A client needs temporary support while an agency recruits a long-term team.
  • A family requests travel or destination event accompaniment.
  • A hospital discharge requires prompt short-term execution.
  • A current agency client needs temporary coverage outside the agency’s model.

Referral Commitment

When a client requires ongoing care beyond my model, I refer the family back to appropriate long-term providers. Referral relationships are transparent, non-exclusive, and managed in full accordance with privacy, consent, and regulatory standards.
